Norwalk

A comfortable, relaxed way of life focused on the outdoors.

Founded in 1649, Norwalk was once an agricultural region featuring corn and wheat crops and dairy cows that grazed along today's Calf Pasture Beach. By the late 1800s, the city became known as "Oyster Town" and served as the world's oyster capital thanks to the Norwalk Island chain, which creates an ideal environment for the bivalves. Today, with nearly 90,000 residents, Norwalk is Connecticut's sixth-largest city.

Norwalk offers a something-for-everyone appeal coupled with a diverse population, award-winning schools and a rich maritime history. Spanning 36 square miles, the city provides an impressive dining scene ranging from excellent seafood to Latin, Asian and Italian cuisine. Outdoor activities are a way of life, with fantastic boating, golfing, hiking, biking and more.

Separated by geography and highways, Norwalk neighborhoods each offer a unique way of life, from modest waterfront homes in East Norwalk to multimillion-dollar estates along Shorehaven Road, from quieter West Norwalk and Rowayton to buzzy SoNo condos.

Like most Fairfield County towns, Norwalk embraces its coastal location with outstanding beaches, marinas and large city parks. In warm-weather months, active residents can be found golfing, visiting the plethora of waterfront restaurants, attending great festivals or playing sports.

Dubbed one of the coolest neighborhoods in Connecticut, the SoNo historic district boasts fantastic restaurants, nightlife, boutiques and an appealing industrial edge. Here, old meets new with the Maritime Aquarium, a former ironworks factory, just inches from the SoNo Collection, an upscale shopping mall.

In Norwalk, homebuyers will find everything from antique homes, Cape Cod cottages and Colonials to new-construction condominiums and waterfront estates. The median listing price of $515,000 puts homeownership within reach.

Norwalk offers a wealth of friendly communities offering attainable housing prices and fantastic neighborhood pride. With a range of options and lifestyles to choose from, everyone can find their perfect fit in beautiful, historic Norwalk.
